Last week, LeadingAge Texas presented Senator Beverly Powell (D - Ft. Worth) and Representative Stephanie Klick (R - North Richland Hills) with the Partners in Quality Award to recognize their commitment to aging services and efforts to strengthen the long term care workforce during the 86th Texas Legislative Session. In 2019, Senator Powell and Representative Klick filed legislation (SB 2300 and HB 3111) that would have created a student loan repayment assistance program for nurses working in Texas nursing homes.

James L. West Center for Dementia Care in Ft. Worth hosted the event and were joined by leadership from Trinity Terrace, Christian Care Senior Living, LeadingAge Texas, and other stakeholders from the local community. The group continued discussing ways to improve the workforce crisis in aging services and looks forward to collaborating with Senator Powell and Representative Klick to develop legislation for the next session in 2021.
