#AlzheimersAwarenessMonth

Join us for #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth this November

This November, LeadingAge Texas is proud to recognize #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth as part of our 2024 Bright Spots calendar. Alzheimer’s disease affects millions of people worldwide, including many of the individuals and families served by our members. Throughout this month, we are raising awareness, sharing personal stories, and offering valuable resources to support those impacted by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time to heighten awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and show support for the more than 6.2 million Americans living with it. There are a number of quick and easy ways you can help raise awareness, show support, and fight Alzheimer’s disease!

Our goal is to foster greater understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, advocate for research, and highlight the vital role that aging services providers play in supporting those affected by this disease. By sharing stories of resilience, providing resources for caregivers, and promoting research advancements, we can work together to make a difference.

How to Participate in #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth:

1. Share Personal Stories of Those Impacted by Alzheimer's
Do you have residents, staff, or families in your community who have been affected by Alzheimer’s? Share their personal stories to highlight the strength and resilience of those facing this disease. These stories help raise awareness and foster empathy.

2. Highlight the Role of Caregivers
Caregivers play a critical role in supporting individuals with Alzheimer’s. Share stories of your community’s caregiving heroes, and recognize their hard work, dedication, and compassion. Encourage families to share messages of thanks and appreciation for the caregivers in their lives.

3. Provide Resources for Alzheimer's Care
Offer resources to help residents, families, and staff navigate the challenges of Alzheimer’s care. Share information about caregiver support groups, educational programs, and local Alzheimer’s organizations. Highlight ways your community is providing innovative and compassionate care for individuals with dementia.

4. Advocate for Research
Promote awareness of ongoing Alzheimer’s research and the importance of supporting efforts to find a cure. Share updates on advancements in Alzheimer’s care, research breakthroughs, and ways to get involved in clinical trials or research advocacy.

GO TEAL!

Teal is the Alzheimer’s Awareness color of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA). AFA uses teal because it has been shown in color psychology studies to be a calming color. This is helpful when designing and decorating spaces and events to be welcoming and comforting to those living with Alzheimer’s. So, next time you see someone dressed in teal, remember the more than 6 million people living with Alzheimer’s and the help they need.
