This webinar series emphasizes growing the skills of the interdisciplinary team in the areas of mental health, behavior management and fostering psychosocial well-being. Your staff will gain insight into common mental health disorders, substance use disorders, trauma informed care, as well as psychotropic medications and implementing effective non-pharmacological strategies to manage behavioral health needs in the LTC setting.

SCHEDULE [Weekly; Wednesdays at 11:30 am CT]

  • September 18 - Psychotropic Medications: Best Practices in LTC
    This session explores the regulatory requirements and standards of care related to psychotropic medication use in nursing homes. Best practices for ensuring appropriate use, avoiding unnecessary medications and understanding related quality measures will be discussed with case study examples.
  • October 2 - Trauma Informed Care
    Learn to recognize signs of trauma, create a supportive environment, and apply strategies to enhance the emotional and psychological well-being of residents. This session will emphasize integrating trauma-informed care practices into daily routines to provide compassionate and effective care.
  • October 9 - Substance Use Disorders (SUD)
    Substance Use Disorders are now recognized and identified as a collection of cognitive, behavioral, and physiological symptoms, wherein an individual persists in using a substance despite experiencing significant problems and adverse consequences. This session will review the characteristics of this disease, along with identifying who is at risk, what substances are included, intervention strategies, and how it impacts Long Term Care.
  • October 16 - Behavior Management Programs
    Expand insight into the application of non-pharmacological interventions, techniques for de-escalating challenging behaviors, and the importance of a person-centered approach. The goal of this session is to equip staff with the skills necessary to to preemptively reduce problem behaviors and to manage behavioral health issues effectively, fostering a positive and therapeutic environment for residents.
  • October 23 - Advance Directives, Consent, and End-of-Life Care
    This session aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how these critical aspects of healthcare influence patients’ mental and emotional states, as well as their overall quality of life.

MEET THE PRESENTERS

Christine Twombly, RN-BC, RAC-MT, RAC-MTA, HCRM, CHC

Christine is a clinical consultant with Proactive Medical Review and Consulting. Ms. Twombly is a certified gerontological nurse, a certified resident assessment coordinator (RAC-CT), a certified AANAC master teacher for both the RAC-CT and RAC-CTA certifications, a health care risk manager (LHRM), and is certified in healthcare compliance (CHC). Christine has more than 28 years of experience in post-acute care, including many years of hands-on experience with MDS assessments and related care planning. She has worked under Medicare PPS for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) since its inception and has a strong working knowledge of PDPM for Medicare as well as RUGS for Medicaid CMI. She has extensive experience working with SNFs to conduct Medicare documentation and billing compliance assessments and providing assistance with third-party medical review and the appeals process.

Eleisha Wilkes, RN, GERO-BC, RAC-CTA, RAC-CT, DNS-CT

Eleisha Wilkes is a Board Certified Gerontological Nurse and AAPACN certified MDS consultant with over twenty years of experience in long term care. She has served as a Director of Nursing, Case Manager and Resident Assessment Coordinator with extensive responsibility and success in driving QA in the areas of person-centered assessment and care planning through effective systems, staff development, and interdisciplinary team collaboration. Eleisha specializes in RAI completion, MDS validation audits, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement compliance, competency-based staff education programs, and works with clients extensively to facilitate SNF/NF survey readiness. She also contributes to McKnight’s LTC News as the “Ask the Payment Expert” columnist.

Janine Lehman RN, RAC-CT, CLNC, Director of Legal Nurse Consulting
Janine is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years’ experience in long term care, working in all nursing capacities from Nursing Assistant and Charge Nurse, to MDS Coordinator, Staff Development Coordinator, ADON and DON. She is MDS Certified through AANAC, and is a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. Her background includes serving as a Corporate Nurse Consultant, and the Director of Clinical Services for a multi-facility, multi-level of care organization. She has extensive experience in the RAI process, clinical documentation, legal nurse consulting, restorative nursing programs, fall management, QAPI, and infection control, and has provided training on these topics for State and National organizations.


RECORDINGS

These recordings will be made available to paid registrants at no additional charge. Recordings are typically available within one week of the live webinar session. Webinar Recording Procedure:
