#NationalBookMonth

Join us for #NationalBookMonth this October

This October, we are celebrating #NationalBookMonth as part of our 2024 Bright Spots calendar. Books play an essential role in our communities, not only offering entertainment and education but also fostering empathy, understanding, and connection—values that are particularly meaningful in the field of aging services.

Throughout the month, we will explore the power of storytelling and literature in shaping relationships, sparking meaningful conversations, and enhancing the quality of care. We encourage members to share the ways in which books are enriching their communities.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN #NATIONALBOOKMONTH:

1. Share Stories of Book Lovers in Your Community
Does your community have residents or staff who love to read? Share their stories! Highlight favorite books, reading clubs, or personal experiences that have shaped their lives. Let’s celebrate the role books play in the daily lives of your residents.

2. Host a Book Club or Reading Circle
Engage your residents by hosting a book club or reading circle focused on books that promote empathy, understanding, or explore aging. Discuss how the themes resonate with participants and bring people together through shared stories.

3. Recommend and Review Books That Matter
Encourage your residents, staff, and families to share their favorite book recommendations related to aging, empathy, and caregiving. Post reviews and discussions online to connect with others who share a love for books.

4. Donate Books
Encourage your community to donate books to local libraries, schools, etc. Sharing the love of reading can make a lasting impact on others, especially when the books promote messages of empathy and understanding.

5. Engage with Authors or Local Libraries
Partner with local authors or libraries to host discussions, virtual readings, or even live author events. These collaborations can deepen connections within your community and offer new perspectives on the topics that matter most in aging services.
