OVERVIEW

A 5-star rating isn’t a trophy—it’s a moving target. Maintaining a 5-star rating as a nursing home requires consistent, high-level performance across all three CMS-rated domains—health inspections, staffing, and quality measures.

Join LeadingAge Southeast’s Lisa Jensen and Connie Cheren for an engaging and practical training focused on the CMS 5-Star Quality Rating System. This system plays a critical role in shaping public perception, influencing consumer choice, and driving financial outcomes for nursing homes.

Designed for nursing home administrators, clinical leaders, and quality improvement staff, this one-hour session will provide specific strategies to achieve excellence in the most challenging quality measures. Participants will learn how high-performing facilities have improved their ratings through data-driven practices, consistent staffing models, and a focus on resident outcomes. Real-world case studies will illustrate successful strategies, and attendees will leave with actionable insights to elevate their facility's quality profile.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the structure, scoring methodology, and recent updates to the CMS 5-Star Quality Rating System.
  • Analyze proven strategies used by high-performing nursing homes to improve scores.
  • Apply best practices and data-informed decision-making to develop an action plan for improving or sustaining a higher star rating.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This session is designed for nursing home administrators, clinical leaders, quality improvement staff, and executive teams who are responsible for maintaining or improving CMS 5-Star Quality Ratings. It is especially valuable for those overseeing staffing, compliance, and resident outcomes in skilled nursing facilities.
