WEDNESDAY, SEPT 11

with Valynda King, James L West Center for Dementia Care; Nicia Wasson, CC Young

Equip senior living leaders with the skills to become "burnout detectives" and recognize the early warning signs of employee exhaustion within their organizations.

Burnout is a significant concern for senior living organizations, with Gallup reporting that 76% of employees experience it at least sometimes. In this session, we'll shift the focus from burnout prevention to burnout detection, empowering you to become a "burnout detective" within your organization. You'll learn to recognize the behavioral, emotional, and physical symptoms of employee exhaustion, setting the stage for the following session on prevention strategies.

By identifying burnout early, you can maintain workforce well-being and ensure the delivery of high-quality resident care, while also addressing decreased productivity, higher turnover rates, and increased healthcare costs. Importantly, we'll also explore how burnout has become normalized in our culture, and the imperative for leaders to call out overworking and other unhealthy behaviors when observed.

This session will help leaders:
Explain the importance of recognizing burnout in the senior living workplace and its impact on the organization
Identify the behavioral, emotional, and physical symptoms that indicate employee burnout within your team
Recognize how burnout has become normalized in our culture and the responsibility of leaders to call out unhealthy behaviors that contribute to workforce exhaustion

Discover essential strategies for building trust and mastering communication techniques crucial for success in aging services utilizing techniques from. Through interactive exercises and practical insights, you'll enhance your ability to connect with clients, families, and colleagues effectively. This workshop will be based on John Maxwell’s “Everyone Communicates, Few Connect”

Utilize techniques to build rapport, trust, and collaboration
Master the art of listening to enhance your ability to connect with clients, families, and colleagues effectively

As leaders in the aging services sector, you know all too well the devastating impact of burnout on your workforce. As the first Leadership Collective group focused on identifying the signs and symptoms of burnout, this session will take this a step further to equip leaders with actionable tools to create an environment where your team can truly thrive. Gain essential strategies to foster a culture of trust, transparency, and open communication - the foundation for a resilient, burnout-proof workforce.

You'll learn how to:
Identify ways to build genuine rapport and strengthen your connections with each member of your team. Discover the power of active listening and creating safe spaces for open dialogue.
Equip your employees with healthy coping mechanisms to manage stress and prevent burnout. Provide the resources and support they need to recharge and re-energize.

While the first two Leadership Collective sessions helped equip you with knowledge and tools to identify and combat burnout with teams, this session turns the spotlight inward to help leaders prioritize their own self-care.

In our society, it's almost become a sort of badge of honor to overwork and to not take time away. But the simple truth is, you can't pour from an empty cup. It is imperative that this change, and who better to champion this than you?

In this transformative session, you will be empowered with essential mindset shifts and practical strategies to build a culture of self-care starting with your own wellbeing.

You'll learn how to:
Identify the "5 Gems of Self-Care" - the key practices that will help you, as an executive leader, better understand your unique self-care needs and prevent burnout.

This workshop emphasizes strategic communication as a tool for driving sustainable changes and enhancing the visibility of issues pertinent to the aging population.

Examine and refine storytelling methods to better engage with key stakeholders in the aging industry.
Develop messages that align with organizational goals and effectively convey the importance of aging issues.

The ongoing fallout from the pandemic era and the economic pressures impacting providers have forced organizations to be smarter about operational and financial oversight. In many cases, we need to do the same or more with less, meaning often fewer staff and perhaps more limited margin (if any) that in years’ past. This session will talk about the traits of healthy organizations and how they ensure a proactive stance to both the headwinds and the opportunities. Time will be spent on the importance of strong leadership, bold governance and a disciplined oversight to regular monitoring of operational and financial performance.

Attendees will be provided with resources and tools to utilize in their own organizations and will learn from an overview of provider case studies, both those who have demonstrated strength and sustainability and those who have faced unsustainable business models and the difficult, but necessary, decisions they have had to make.

FRIDAY, SEPT 13

with Dr. Hayley Moseley, ACC CADDCT CDP CMDCP CDCS, Director of Education, CC Young

Change is a constant in senior care, demanding adept leadership to navigate evolving demographics, regulatory requirements, and team dynamics.

In this session, Dr. Hayley Moseley will present John Kotter’s 8 steps to leading change, sharing her personal experiences and success stories. Attendees will:

Understand the role and challenges of a change agent.
Learn to apply Kotter’s strategies to real-life scenarios in senior care.
Evaluate leadership actions in a changing environment.

Interactive activities, storytelling, and discussions will provide a solid foundation for initiating and managing change within their organizations. Dr. Moseley will also naturally weave in key insights from previous sessions, ensuring a cohesive understanding of the conference's theme.

All registration cancellations and refund requests must be made in email by August 16 and sent to support@leadingagetexas.org

Cancellation penalties:

Registration Open - August 16 = full refund less a $75 processing fee per attendee
August 16 - August 23 = 50% refund
Anytime after August 23 = substitutions may be made for persons unable to attend
