LeadingAge Texas applauds Governor Abbott for including COVID-19 federal relief funding to support the healthcare workforce and the operations of nursing homes, assisted living, and long-term care facilities on the call for a second special session. Long-term care facilities have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal funding made available allows Texas to address the negative impacts of this historic event and the ongoing challenges providers are facing. Texans who rely on us need bold action to help strengthen our communities so we may ensure every resident has continued access to high quality care and services. Our not-for-profit providers look forward to working with the Texas Legislature to address the most pressing issues brought to light during the pandemic including the long term care workforce shortage, infection prevention and mitigation efforts, and initiatives that promote and protect resident health and well-being.
