Georgetown, Texas: Non-profit senior living and healthcare provider Wesleyan Homes, Inc., announced today that its board of trustees has named Mark Lenhard as the organization’s next president and chief executive officer. Lenhard had been serving as chief operating officer since July 4, 2017, and succeeds Chris G. Spence, who retired December 31, after faithfully leading Wesleyan Homes for 28 years.
Wesleyan Homes Board Chair The Rev. Dr. Dale Schultz said, “We were very pleased with the large number of experienced applicants who expressed interest helping shape the future of Wesleyan Homes. In Mark, we found both breadth and depth of experience in the senior living and healthcare field, strong leadership skills and a heart for the mission and ministry of Wesleyan Homes.” Schultz thanked all involved in the selection process and those who supported Wesleyan Homes during this transition with their prayers.
On being named CEO, Lenhard expressed gratitude for the trustees, teammates, donors and entire Wesleyan Homes family for all they have done to support Wesleyan Homes during its 55-year history. “I look forward to the opportunity to build on Wesleyan’s great heritage, set a course for the future and extend Wesleyan’s mission and ministry to even more Central Texans.”
Lenhard holds a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in gerontology, both earned from Baylor University. He is licensed as a Nursing Facility Administrator in the state of Texas and is certified as a preceptor who has mentored several administrators-in-training. He brings with him valuable experience of having worked in both the for-profit, and the faith-based, not-for-profit sectors of long-term care. Holding various roles through the years - administrator, executive director, director of operations and senior vice president - have prepared Lenhard to lead an organization that employs 450 teammates and serves more than 2,100 people annually.
Lenhard is an active member of LeadingAge Texas, a trade association for not-for-profit aging care, services and housing providers. He served on the LeadingAge Texas board for 15 years, holding the offices of secretary and treasurer and chairing both the finance and public policy committees. He has also served on the House of Delegates and in the Policy Congress for the national association of LeadingAge.
Lenhard’s significant committee work also includes serving on LeadingAge’s Survey and Certification task force, as well as holding committee appointments with both HHSC (Health and Human Services Commission) and DADS (Department of Aging and Disability Services) for nursing facility credentialing, STAR+PLUS services, Medicaid bed allocation, and nursing facility quality metrics.
