ACTION ALERT: Tell Your Senators to Stand Up for Medicaid

The Senate is scheduled to vote this month on health care reform that could end Medicaid as we know it by converting it to a per capita cap or block grant. Proposals under consideration would cut Medicaid by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade.

Under this proposal, every state would lose federal funding, forcing states to cut back on services for seniors and people with disabilities covered by Medicaid as well as reimbursement to providers.

LeadingAge strongly opposes these changes to Medicaid. We urge Congress to protect Medicaid and ensure that older adults have access to the essential long-term services and supports they need.

It is critical that your Senators hear from you now!

The Plaza Health Services at Mirador Celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day

The Plaza Health Services at Mirador, an SQLC retirement community, recently celebrating the annual observance of National Senior Health and Fitness Day, by offering programs and exercises aimed at helping seniors challenge themselves by trying something new. The activities and exercises helped to increase seniors’ understanding of their bodies and improve strength, balance and flexibility. Residents of The Plaza, Mirador’s health care neighborhood, united with seniors across the country to promote the health and wellness of older Americans, and they invited seniors in the local Corpus Christi community to take part in the day’s activities. The community hosted a Zumba class as a fun and challenging exercise. Additionally, Jessie Rodriguez, program director for the rehab department at The Plaza, was on hand to announce The Plaza’s new health and wellness seminar series. Through events such as this, Mirador offers residents and members of the local community the opportunity to speak with experts and make informed decisions about their health and well-being. The community hopes to demonstrate how fitness and an active lifestyle are options for everyone regardless of age.
